Education briefs: Understanding your adolescent seminar; Test drives will earn Houlton Elementary cash

Understanding your adolescent seminar

What is going on in my teenager's brain? What is this thing called adolescence and when will it end? Why does my teen not have energy to clean his room, but can stay up until 3 a.m. playing video games? How can my teen be so amazing one minute and so perplexing the next?

Practical tips for fostering a positive relationship with your teenager.

Brian Crim, licensed marriage and family therapist, has worked with teens and their families for over 20 years in a variety of settings. His positive outlook on adolescence and helpful information about the changes taking place in your teen's brain will quite possibly shift your perspective on raising teenagers (in a good way!). Crim loves interaction and questions, so come ready for an engaging discussion between all in attendance.

The seminar will be held 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 3 at Hudson Middle School. The cost is $5 per person. Register at hudsonraiders.feepay.com by clicking on "Student Fees & Athletics" and selecting the activity "HMS Fall Parent Seminar". Free childcare available when you register.

Test drives will earn Houlton Elementary cash

From 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Nov. 10, Hudson Chrysler LLC will host a Chrysler Cars 4 Classrooms fundraiser for Houlton Elementary students.

During the event, parents and friends of the school will have the opportunity to earn money for Houlton Elementary student, by taking a test drive in the all-new Chrysler Pacifica and Pacifica Hybrid — the only hybrid minivan available on the market. Any licensed driver, age 18 or older, may drive and earn on the school's behalf. Hudson Chrysler LLC will provide vehicles and staff to assist drivers with fundraising test drives and any questions they may have.

For each test drive taken during the fundraising event, Chrysler will donate $10 to Houlton Elementary. As an added incentive, the Chrysler brand will also offer Houlton Elementary a chance to earn additional funding by doubling its contribution and donating $20 per test drive. Schools can earn up to $3,000 in funding.

Additionally, all test drive participants will be entered into the 2018 FCA US National Sweepstakes at registration, for a chance to win $45,000 towards an eligible vehicle from any one of the Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Ram Truck and FIAT brands.
